💌 Welcome to Issue #62 of The Conscious Edit!

Earlier this week, I posed a question on Instagram that seemed to resonate with a lot of you: what if we could read fashion labels like food labels (i.e. nutrition facts)?

🏷 Currently, the only information fashion brands are required to disclose is where the product was made and what fibers or materials that item consists of. Hardly enough information to make a conscious purchasing decision.

This lack of standardized information has thrown the door wide open to a confusing slew of eco certifications and self-assessed sustainability claims.

👚 Enter in: the Sustainability Facts Label. A label created by the ethical fashion brand Nisolo that's modeled after a Nutrition Facts label. It scores a product out of 100 on ten key categories relating to people and the planet.

Could this be the kind of simple, yet in-depth, label that fashion has been missing to give individuals the information they need to make better buying decisions?

🎙 Well, I'll let you decide for yourself after hearing more about the label firsthand from Nisolo's Sustainability Lead, Matt Stockamp.

In this Conscious Style Podcast episode, Matt shares the methodology behind the Sustainability Facts Label, why Nisolo created this label in the first place, and what their future plans are for expanding this label across the industry.

Is resale truly sustainable? What's real and what's false via Vogue Business

"While giving new life to old garments is one way to deal with clothing waste, for material sustainability benefits to occur brands need to explain:

➡️ if and how they expect resale to improve their total environmental footprint as a company (which few do)

➡️ and whether recommerce will mean they produce fewer new clothes (which most are particularly quiet about."

The Need to "Remember Who Made Them" with Venetia La Manna Conscious Chatter Podcast

In episode 268 of Conscious Chatter, Kestrel chats with podcaster and content creator Venetia La Manna on greenwashing, calling out fast fashion, how Big Fashion is co-opting the slow fashion movement, and her thoughts on if it's "okay" to buy fast fashion secondhand.

I love Kestrel's podcast and Venetia's, so it was such a joy listening to the two chat in this episode!
