💌 Welcome to Issue #69 of The Conscious Edit!

It's a slow fashion summer here at Conscious Life & Style and this week, we're going back to the basics:

🤨 Why exactly is fast fashion so bad again?

If we're advocating for a slower fashion future, then it's worth stopping to question just what's so wrong about the current dominant system.

👗 Of course the ENTIRE fashion industry has a massive footprint and more expensive clothing doesn't equal ethically made (designer fashion can and does get made in sweatshops too).

But fast fashion has driven a race to the bottom of the entire industry. And they are particularly exploitative to the environment and to people due to their inhumane speed, wasteful production volumes, and relentless price pressure — which always ends up hurting workers most.

🎙 In the season premiere episode of the Conscious Style Podcast, I'm breaking down just what makes fast fashion so harmful: to the planet, to the people working in the supply chain, AND maybe even to fast fashion shoppers.

(As always, the goal is to educate and empower people to be part of the change — EVEN those who still rely on fast fashion due to sizing, access, etc. The goal is not to shame and point fingers at everyday people, but to raise awareness and encourage the broader slow fashion movement.)

Alright, now to the rest of this week's Conscious Edit!

A Glamping Weekend With Getaway: A Complete Review of These Tiny Cabins!  *Conscious Life & Style Partner

Do you remember the last time you fully unplugged and had unstructured free time in nature? If you were like me and drew a blank at that question — you could probably use a getaway. (And not one of those "I need a vacation after that vacation" kind of trips!)

That's exactly the mission of Getaway House: they offer modern tiny cabins about 2 hours away from 20+ different major U.S. cities. The cabins have everything you need — and nothing you don't (like wifi).

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I ventured to a tiny cabin at Getaway House's Chicago Outpost in Michigan. So I'm sharing a complete review of our stay there, PLENTY of tips, and a pretty great packing list if I do say so myself. 🎒
