Gary Barnard from the DNR Fisheries was our March speaker. He talked about area lakes.

  • Cass Lake; of 125 fish sampled only 3 were over 50 inches, with 62 percent of the muskies under 42 inches. It is a strong Muskie lake.
  • Plantagenet; 106 fish sampled with 30 being over 50 inches. They estimate 120 over 50 inches in the lake.it is a high-density Muskie lake
  • Elk and Itasca lakes will be surveyed in 2019.

Kevin Cochran was our April speaker. He gave tips for fishing Cass Lake and how fishing there has changed since the zebra mussel’s invasion in that lake. Fishing faster and deeper is now the normal method. The fish are spooked easier due to the clear water. The fish tend to be deeper. Night fishing is a great option for the now clearer lake.

Get ready for a busy Muskie season.  Have a great season and always be safe on the water

Special Thank You to:

Kevin Cochran for being our April speaker and for sharing his notes from DNR speaker meeting.

Gary Barnard from DNR fisheries for being our March speaker.
