I have a confession… I am not very good at remembering Bible verses. The way my mind works is in over aching themes and seemingly disconnected bits of information that swirl into a symphony of what some would consider organized chaos. For me, it is all quite natural and yet smaller details, like grocery lists, get lost somewhere in the grey matter between my two ears.
While on one hand, I struggle to memorize Bible verses, the reality is that there are a number of passages I have committed to memory because they have been put to music. By singing these inspirational words from the Holy Spirit, they have ended up a part of my soul. One such song has the encouraging and truthful words:
I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1-2).
Whether it is listening to Christian music on the radio, joining into the chorus of saints on Sunday mornings, or simply singing in your personal quiet place, the Christian music we sing is full of actual Bible verses that can be incredibly life-giving.
Let me encourage you to listen, to sing, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. He wants your joy to be full today!
