I have always loved music. From the time I was a young boy, singing was a part of me. When I was four years old, my parents bought me my first drum. It even had a picture of Animal from The Muppets on it (how fitting is that!). There is just something about music that speaks to me in ways nothing else can.
In scripture, we read:
“Oh sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day” (Psalm 96:1-2).
Singing and making music is not simply something we enjoy. There is a deeply spiritual aspect to it. That is why we find references to music, worship, and praise all throughout the Bible. In fact, the largest book in the Bible is a massive collection of songs.
At Christ the King Community Church, worship is one of our four main priorities. Over the history of our church, my wife, Kamela Davis, has been our Worship Director. She has not only lead from the front but has also put in countless hours out of the spotlight (organizing music, selecting worship sets, leading teams, etc.). I am truly thankful the Lord has given me such an incredibly gifted and faithful partner in ministry!
After eleven years of service, Kamela is stepping down as our Worship Director and Kara Cox will become our new Worship Director. Kamela will still be leading worship on Sundays. However, Kara will now be our point person and will be working with the rest of our ministry staff to plan for the future of CTK.
Kara brings to the table several years of worship experience through her training at Multnomah University, as well as the work she did at Grace Chapel in Wilsonville. She is a blessing to have as part of our team!
When you get a chance, please join me in thanking Kamela for all of her hard work in building a worship ministry. She has been a total blessing to our church!
Also, give some encouragement to Kara as she steps into her new role. Through it all, let’s be a church that sings to the Lord and tells the world of His great works!
Love to all,
