Dear Friends at CTK,

We are in a battle. There is a clear sense tension in our culture that is affecting our lives in almost every way. From our workplaces, to our schools, and even within our families, people are taking sides against one another on multiple issues. Yet in the midst of this, it is important to have a correct understanding about who we are truly fighting against.

The Apostle Paul wrote the following words to the church: “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). While this verse is common for us to quote, we find ourselves in a place where mere lip service to this reality will no suffice. Either this battle is real, or it is not. Either we focus our efforts towards earthly manners of fighting, or we focus on that which is spiritual in nature and therefore much more difficult to discern.

I believe we need to focus on this spiritual battle, standing against the enemy through spiritual means. If we read Paul’s words further, he not only describes the metaphorical armor of God, he also goes on to say, ““Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (Ephesians 6:18).

Prayer is the often-overlooked manner in which we join together to stand against our adversary. With this in mind, I am calling on our church to enter into a time of prayer and fasting that will start on Monday, August 17th – Tuesday, November 3rd.  We will have online sign-ups and are asking that two people would commit each day to prayer and fasting. My hope is that we will not only cover each day of the week throughout this time but that we might even have more than two people per day sign-up.

As a reminder, prayer and fasting is not about getting something from God as a way of payment for our sacrifice. It is a way for us to get God; to experience His grace, holiness, and love in a way that transforms us from the inside-out.

Let’s do this together for His glory!

Love to all,
Tim Davis.
