Dear Friends at CTK,
This past week I put out a call for our church to enter into a time of prayer and fasting, a time of earnestly seeking the Lord together. One inspiration for this is a passage we find in the book of Acts. We read:
“Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers… While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off” (Acts 13:1-3).
The early church discovered a new phase of God’s plan for the Kingdom when they devoted themselves to a period of prayer, fasting, and worship. This is what we need as a church today. By faith, I believe that Jesus Christ has a plan for His church in the midst of a chaotic culture.
Some might think I am getting political and calling on our church to vote for one candidate or another. That is not my goal. What I am advocating for is not that we swing far to the right or far to the left, nor some muddy blend of the two in the middle; I believe there is another way, the path of Jesus Christ. It is the road less trodden yet its signposts are clearly marked out for all who truly want to move forward on the journey.
As we journey down this path together, I feel called to be a guide who allows freedom for the Holy Spirit to move in us as He sees fit. While we are all heading to the same destination, our experiences along the way will not all be the same. At the same time, we can learn from each other because the same Spirit that baptized the early church, is the same Spirit that Jesus is giving to us today.
With this in mind, I once again ask that you join us on this journey. We need everyone in our church to move forward in unity so that the body functions properly. Let us step out in faith, together!
Love to all,
Tim Davis.

My Personal Thoughts & Principles for Seeking the LORD:

  • Jesus Christ wants to spend time with us. The goal of prayer, fasting, and worship is to block out the other voices around us, so that we can spend intimate time with Him. Be intentional, deliberate, and resolute in the process.
  • Freedom is needed for this journey. We can all fast, but we need not all fast in the same way. We can all pray but there are many different ways to have a conversation with the Lord. We can all worship, but we can do it in a way that works for us personally. This is all about connecting with Jesus, so discover the ways that work best for you.
  • God gives us grace, so give it to yourself. You may feel guilt or shame while seeking the Lord. Most likely, you will discover just how weak you really are when you enter into a time of prayer and fasting. We live by faith, through grace. If there is something you need to repent about, just do it and trust that He has forgiven you. Remember, our strength is in the Lord and not in our own efforts.
  • People often fall asleep while in times of prayer and fasting. Many of us our exhausted and are struggling to hear the Lord due to a lack of sleep. Unless Jesus has specifically asked you to stand guard, sleep is actually a good thing. As one of my mentors once said, “Nothing says to the Lord, ‘I trust you,’ like being willing to literally rest in His presence.”
  • Invite other people to join us on the journey. Every person in our church knows someone who is longing to hear from the God. Seeking the Lord is not about sing-up sheets and fancy marketing strategies to build excitement in the church. It is all about relationships. Not only does the Lord want to speak with us, He also wants to share Himself with more people. There is always room for more at our Father’s table!
