Dear Friends at CTK,

Earlier this week, I met with a group of people at Gwynn’s Coffee House for our Wednesday Night Koinonia (fellowship or community). At the end of our Bible discussion, I read a passage from John’s Gospel. Since that time, I have not been able to let go of the following three verses:

  • “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
  • “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love” (John 15:9-10).
  • “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11).

It strikes me that Jesus is offering three incredible things to us. First, that our lives can bear fruit. All of us are striving for this. We want to be successful!

Second, Jesus is offering us true love… The type that He has known from the Father since before the foundations of the earth were laid. A love that is deep, true, and unshakeable.

Finally, we have an offer of joy. Not happiness that is fleeting and based purely on life’s circumstances. We can have a joy that sinks deep into our inner most being and transforms us from the inside out.

All of these can be ours today, if we abide in Jesus Christ. All it takes is for us to spend time with Him through prayer, worship, devotions, and being in community with His people. The offer has been made and our options are clear: Abide and be blessed!

Love to all,
Tim Davis.
