This week’s newsletter is pretty short and sweet because we are busy gearing up for moving our kitchen a few blocks south. Come say hi tomorrow (Sunday) for one last day in our current location. Please your masks, keep your distance, and let us know how you are doing these days. Thank you for all your continued support, keep finding ways to stand up for what is right and keep doing the work with us.

In the pastry window Sunday!

Visit us tomorrow in the pastry walk up window to celebrate the first local apricots of the season from Baird Family Orchard that are reminding us to take a moment to sit in gratitude for all the gifts of summer the earth is giving us. It is now time to ask how we can best act in reciprocity to thank her.  We’ve got sourdough spelt galettes and sourdough ricotta olive oil cakes featuring these sweet, tart, and luscious stone fruits so please come say hi!

Find us at our new location next weekend

If you didn’t catch our announcement on social media, we are excited to announce starting next weekend we will be sharing a kitchen and retail space with Beetroot Market & Deli, a women-run, Pacific NW Jewish deli and specialty food store prioritizing local farmers and craftspeople and supporting women-run, queer-run, POC-run, & immigrant-run small businesses.

Tomorrow is our last day at the pastry walk-up window we’ve set up at 833 NW 16th St. Next weekend please come visit us at our new home at 1639 NW Glisan St, Portland, OR 97209 (just a 4 minute walk away from our current location!) Beetroot’s menu is also available for pickup service service Wednesday through Friday (10:00 AM - 2:00 PM) offering an All-Day menu which is available for pre-order and same day ordering. We can’t wait to be sharing community and food stories together!

This is the first stage of an unfolding project - that we intend to build slowly and with care and intention - to establish a kitchen collective to unite and amplify a chorus of marginalized voices in the food and farming community, create more equitable systems of resource redistribution, and grow the scaffolding of a solidarity economy based on relationships and place. We look forward to a time when we are again able to gather for workshops, community events, and movement organizing work together. We will be sharing many more details on this developing project in the coming weeks and months, but want to express our excitement to be working with a business who shares so many of our values and worldviews.

Custom cake orders

Did you know that you can order custom cakes that highlight whole grain flavor profiles and include beautiful local flora from me, Katie (the newest half of the Wildflower Baking team)?

100% of proceeds are currently being donated to redistribute resources to Lead 2 Life. In their own beautiful words: “Lead to Life is an Oakland-rooted (occupied Ohlone territory) & trans-local collective led by black and queer artists, healers & ecologists committed to embodying Mark Anthony Johnson’s prayer that ‘Black wellness is the antithesis of state violence.’ Bridging racial and environmental justice through ceremony and art practice, we explore our commitment to decomposing systems of oppression through what we called applied alchemy - wielding alchemy to provoke radical imagination toward justice.” Please go watch their short film “Serotiny” rooted in the process by which certain seeds germinate and create life out of fire. Follow them, learn from their songs of healing and help me raise funds by ordering a whole grain cake and/or donating to their work on their website or by Venmo-ing @littlenows

Keep these cakes in mind for birthday’s, other celebrations or “just cuz.” Please give at least one week notice by DMing @k.e.gourley on Instagram. You can pick your cake up at our kitchen!
