We are very excited to announce that we have a new logo and will begin using it in our materials next month. In addition, we will be moving to our new location at the end of August and will provide more information next month.

We would also like to take this moment to once again thank Marianne Lorini for her tireless leadership and dedication in caring for the aging population and adults with disabilities in Southwest Florida as CEO of the Agency for the past seven years.

Her passion and unwavering commitment to her work are evident in the number of positive changes she has implemented as CEO, resulting in the building of strong and collaborative relationships among those within Florida’s aging network and throughout our seven-county region. Marianne has been instrumental in the Agency’s growth and we wish her continued health and happiness as she moves to retirement. Her last day at the Agency will be on July 21, 2020.

SHINE Tip of the Month: Check Your Mail for Important Medicare News

Each year beginning in mid-May, the Social Security Administration mails letters to people enrolled in Medicare who are potentially eligible for, but have not enrolled in, Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs. A SHINE counselor can review the eligibility guidelines with you and assist you in applying for these cost-saving programs. If you received one of these letters or you would like to find out if you are eligible, call the Elder Helpline at 866-413-5337 and request to speak with a SHINE Counselor.

HURRICANE SEASON IS HERE
We are now in Hurricane Season and it is critical for people with special needs to register with their local emergency management agency.  The Special Needs Registry website is very easy to use:  https://floridadisaster.org/snr/

If you will need assistance in an emergency, the first step is to apply to the special needs registry in your county.  Your registration is only good for one year. If you applied last year, you need to reapply for 2020. Use the links below to apply:

Note: Every county manages its emergency special needs program differently.  Please check with your county for details.
