IDWC Annual Breakfast

The Idaho Democratic Women’s Caucus wholeheartedly invite Democratic individuals throughout Idaho to our Annual Membership Meeting. The Meeting is on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at 9 am at the Red Lion Hotel Boise Downtowner, which is located at 1800 Fairview Avenue in Boise.
We are proud to have celebrated novelist Tammy Seley Elliott as our featured speaker. Tammy is a veteran of the United States Air Force who served her country proudly for almost three decades before retiring in 2011. Tammy recently served on the Collum for Idaho campaign as Chief of Staff and Chief Multi-tasker. While on the campaign trail, she served as a human podium, spokesperson, and sign distributor among many different roles.
As a reminder, tickets cost $25.00 and your purchase helps support our efforts.

Public Service Leadership Training Opportunity

I-WIL's Public Service Leadership Training is a 2 ½ day boot camp where attendees will learn how to run for office from start to finish. If attendees don’t know where to begin, don’t worry, they will teach them how to file, raise money and do all the things necessary to take action and make a change in your community. They want to help women gain the skills and build the relationships that will help make an impact on our state.

Activist Awards

The IDP is currently accepting nominations for the 2019 Idaho Activist of the Year. Winners will be announced later this month and the winners are determined by who gets the MOST nominations. Nominations are currently being accepted in the following three categories:
1) Democratic Party Leader: Someone who went above and beyond in 2018 to advance the mission of the Idaho Democratic Party. This can be a volunteer, a county chair, a legislative chair, or anyone who spends their valuable time working on behalf of Idaho Democrats. Please nominate Gini Ballou for this category. Gini is the President of the Idaho Democratic Women's Caucus and an Associate Director for United Vision of Idaho. She is also a former Chair of the Blaine County Democrats.
2) Community Leader: Someone who champions Democratic values in the community. This can be someone who fought for conservation, human rights, an educator who goes above and beyond in the classroom--in short, anyone who is making a remarkable difference in our communities. Please nominate Emily Strizich for this category. Emily is a co-founder of Reclaim Idaho, which was instrumental in getting Medicaid expansion on the ballot and ensuring that it was approved by the voters. She continues to spearhead efforts to have Medicaid expansion implemented as directed by the will of the people.
3) Young Activist Leader: Anyone 21 and under who is working to advance progressive issues either through the party or other progressive organizations. Please nominate Maddie Curtright for this category. Maddie is currently a precinct captain, the Communications Director for the Latah County Democrats, and Vice President of the University of Idaho Young Dems. Last year, Maddie managed Senator David Nelson and Commissioner Kathie LaFortune’s campaigns.

Medicaid Expansion Efforts

Speaking of Medicaid Expansion, there’s plenty you can do to remind lawmakers that they should respect the will of Idaho’s voters. A bill will be introduced on Monday in the House Health & Welfare Committee to add work requirements and other sideboards.
After overwhelmingly passing Medicaid Expansion via Prop. 2, Idaho's citizens deserve to see this law implemented as written. We need to keep up the pressure to ensure that the voter's will is obeyed and Medicaid expansion is implemented in a cost-effective way without sideboards. Call and email our legislators so that they know where we stand on Medicaid Expansion.
