In May, I started thinking about a name for COVID-19, something unscientific. Trump is all about branding, so I wanted to “brand” this virus. He likes to call it the Chinese virus, but that is merely to stoke anti-foreign sentiment among his xenophobic followers. After his recently revealed admissions to journalist Bob Woodward about his deliberately downplaying the deadly seriousness of the virus, I decided to name it “Trump’s Virus.”

Some time ago, Trump said that if he didn’t put his name on things he owns all over the world, people wouldn’t remember who owns it. Well, he owns the virus, which has now claimed 194,000 American lives and infected 6.3 million others.

The whole world is well aware of Trump’s comfort with lying to anyone about anything, and being the most distrusted head of state in the world. His lying to the American people about this threat to our health and safety is repulsive and unforgivable. By this time next month, Trump’s Virus will have killed four times as many Americans in nine months than the number we lost in Vietnam over a span of 15 years. He is the epitome of incompetence, stupidity, ignorance, and ineptitude.

While tens of millions may not see it that way, they better pray to God or to whomever they may believe in, that they don’t become one of the millions more who will be infected, or one of the hundreds of thousands more who will die before Trump’s Virus is brought under control. I applaud the many more tens of millions of Americans who are doing everything possible to protect themselves and others, and damn sure don’t listen to anything Trump says about his virus.
