Hi Families!

What a week it has been! We have really had to work together this week and as I continue to say over and over, the partnership with all of you is very important to our success as a school, especially as we navigate the school year in a pandemic. As we continue to work together, let us continue to give grace, problem solve together. As we continue to prioritize safety first at our school, we will continue to over-communicate with you to ensure we are all on the same page. Please see below for some reminders and updates. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do to keep our school thriving and safe! :)

With Love and Partnership,

Dr. Sadé Johnson

ZERO COVID CASES!

We are completing the 2nd week of school with zero Covid cases. As I mentioned in the video on Parent Square on 9/8, we are one of the few schools that have zero cases so far. We are doing many things in the school to ensure that scholars are safe. However, families play a HUGE part in our success at zero cases. Please continue to be honest about your families’ exposure to Covid AND please keep your children home if they have any Covid symptoms. Your honesty is VITAL to keeping our numbers at zero. If your child has a fever, a cough, stomach pains and issues, body aches, or any symptom that is connected to Covid, your child must stay home. Not only are they keeping themselves safe, but they are keeping the rest of the other scholars safe as well. Let’s all do our part!

ARRIVAL

Our number one priority is safety. Please remember the following during arrival:

  • Doors will open at 7:30 AM sharp. This allows for teachers to arrive at our school by 7:20 AM and allows for us to check all health screener information.

  • Families may complete the health screener starting at 9 PM the night before. This will help families to ensure they have it completed before their child arrives at school the next day.

  • Families are responsible for social distancing outside on the arrival line. Let us all do our part to stay safe outside.

  • There is absolutely no skipping in the line. Many families have to get to work in the morning so we need to show care for one another.

  • There is a zero-tolerance for yelling or any inappropriate interactions between families or with staff members. We are all in this together and our kids are watching us! :)

DISMISSAL

Outdoor dismissal allows for us to space out scholars during pick-up. We are 1 of 3 schools in the building that are all dismissing at the same time. Therefore we are always working with our shared schools to ensure that we have safe protocols during all parts of the day, including dismissal. Any changes to our dismissal plan must be approved by all of our shared schools before we can begin to make the change. As we continue to brainstorm what our plan will be as it gets cold, please be patient with us as any shifts in our dismissal plan will take time, planning and partnership between all of the schools. For now please remember the following:

  • Please remember your child’s class name before picking them up. The QR code sign-out system ensures that we are safely and accurately dismissing the right child to the right adult. Knowing the class name allows you to know exactly which class to scan.

  • Dismissal starts promptly at 3 PM. For families who are concerned about their child being outside for lengths at a time, it is vital that you arrive at 3 PM to pick up your child right away.

  • Dismissal ends at 3:30 PM sharp. After 3:30 PM, you are considered a late pick-up.

  • Beginning 9/20, we will be formally communicating with any family who picks up a child late. After 3 late pick-ups, the child will be taken to the precinct for pick up.

    • It is essential that we are picking up on time and closer to 3 PM as possible.

  • Staff must clear the building after dismissal so that our building can undergo a sanitizing process every day (safety is our number one priority).

SPREAD JOY, IT’S THE AFCHES WAY!

We love to learn at CHES but we equally LOVE to have fun! Please continue to keep your child involved in our fun events we will be having during the school year!

  • Starting 9/15-10/15, we will be learning about and celebrating Latinx Heritage Month! Be on the lookout for ways we will be celebrating the rich, vibrant and historical cultures of the Latinx Diaspora!

  • On September 29th, we will be having a family fun Zumba Night at 6PM via Zoom! Please join this family fun hour of dancing, exercising, and a ton of fun! Exercising and Joy are good for the soul!

  • On September 30th, we will be having our School Spirit Day, Color Wars! The colors for each grade are:

    • Kindergarten - Blue

    • 1st grade - Green

    • 2nd grade - Yellow

    • 3rd grade - Purple

    • 4th grade - Red

We can’t wait to see which grade has  THE MOST SCHOOL SPIRIT! :)

<FYI> 2021-2022 AF Enrollment Application is Still OPEN
Great News! Our 2021-2022 school year application is still open! We are still accepting applications for the coming school year.

We urge you to share this amazing opportunity with your friends and family in need of a school community such as AF!

As a reminder, current AF scholars do not need to reapply to AF and enter the lottery again.

Whether you have incoming siblings that you would like to send to Achievement First or if you have family or friends interested in our schools, we encourage you to submit today to take advantage of upcoming virtual events and opportunities! To apply, simply click here, create an account or log into your SchoolMint account, and complete the application online.

Achievement First is always in search of great teammates to join our community.  Through our referral program, we connect with hundreds of candidates every year. Recently, we launched an external referral program—this means that anyone can submit a referral and be eligible for a bonus, even if they aren’t employed by Achievement First. Do you know someone who you think would make a great teacher, leader, or operations teammate at one of our schools? Click here to submit a referral. If your referral is hired, you can earn a cash bonus. For complete rules, read here.
