3rd Thursdays - Go The Distance

Welcome to the first installment of 2021 3rd Thursdays, a quick-read monthly newsletter for the 3rd Thursday of every month to help make room for more abundance

2020 was a year unlike any other.  But if you're reading this first installment of 2021, I want to thank you for showing up.  "Showing up" is how opportunities are created.  "Showing up" means you're committed to getting the job done.  "Showing up" means you're willing to put in the work to accomplish your goals.  

Selfishly, I started this newsletter to form a new habit and to hold myself accountable and to others, towards some lofty goals as I began a career transition in 2020.  I'm happy to announce that this installment marks the 1 year milestone issue (12 consecutive monthly issues) of 3rd Thursdays.

Forming successful habits is much like training for a marathon, 26.2 miles. 
  • We need a plan.  The typical ramp up time to train for a marathon is 4 to 6 months.  Endurance is built over time as we gradually increase weekly mileage and the effectiveness of our habits.  
  • We need to pace ourselves as we work towards that goal.  Training begins with slow and low miles.  We build competency, confidence, and speed over time.
  • We need accountability; a coach or mentor.  Someone who has experience and can keep us motivated when the going gets tough.
  • We need consistency in executing our daily habits.  "We are what we repeatedly do".  Our success becomes a byproduct of our habits.
  • Most of all, we need commitment.  There will be days and moments when the work gets really hard.  When the going gets tough, think back to why you started.
So what are your goals?  What is your plan to achieve them?  How will you go the distance?

My challenge to you on this 3rd Thursday is to commit to your plan.  Need accountability?   Send it to me and I'll check in with you at the beginning of Q2.

Finally, describe the feeling when that task has been accomplished and the space you've created in your mind to allow more abundance.  Find a reason to celebrate, even if it's a self affirmation, "Yep, I got this".
