I can’t. I won’t.

Just a sample of the things we tell ourselves in this experience we call life. Right up there with I’m not. and I don’t. Man, the things we get away with telling ourselves is nothing short of amazing. I am not good enough. I can’t get another job. I won’t be able to lead out in church. And the list goes on and on. I lived in a cycle of negative self-talk for a long time, and it took everything out of me to get out of the cycle of nagging and tearing myself down. You want to know what helped me in the journey of the I “can’ts” and the I “won’ts?”  It was Philippians 2:13 “For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." Wow. God is at work in me to not only help me do the work for His good pleasure, but God also gives me the desire to do His good pleasure. So the I can’t turn into I can. I won’t into I will. God provides something amazing for us. He gives us the way to do His work but also the want to. I don’t have to go on living in the cycle of do I or don’t I. I can rest on God to not only work in me but to work with me. This sabbath we are going to tackle another word we throw around to hinder us into submission. It’s a word that I think is one of the most dangerous in all the English language, it beats the I can’t, the I won’t by a long shot. You know what that word is…. Almost.
