Advancing EuroPACE

EuroPACE Talk with the International Energy Agency, BBVA event in Madrid and more.

During the month of November, the EuroPACE project has been laser-focused on design of the EuroPACE Programme in Olot. Our team has made progress on several fronts, including defining eligible home improvement measures, citizen and building profiles in Olot, contractor engagement, and financing structure. Additionally, our research team has selected the Netherlands and Portugal for further investigation. These countries will be added to the initial selection of Austria, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Romania, and Spain. Stay tuned!

EuroPACE Talks: Discussing the current energy efficiency trends, policies, and financing instruments.
The International Energy Agency has recently released its Energy Efficiency 2018 report, that covers global trends and policies related to progress in achieving energy efficiency. In this talk, we focus on Europe and financing instruments that can help reach climate and energy goals.
If you'd like to contribute to the series, please get in touch with us and we will start a conversation.
The 2nd EuroPACE Talk is dedicated to a conversation with Jessica Glicker from the International Energy Agency.
What are some of the key findings from the Energy Efficiency Market report? What trends a
re you seeing globally and in Europe when it
comes to home and commercial building renovation?
Globally, efficiency gains since 2000 prevented 12% more energy use and emissions in 2017. However, an increase in energy using activities across many countries, regions and sectors is outweighing ongoing progress on energy efficiency, meaning that global energy demand and emissions are still rising. There is significant untapped potential remaining in energy efficiency... continue reading.
What are the most frequent questions you receive from your members about energy efficiency programmes? What type of guidance are member states looking for?
There is growing recognition globally of the benefits of energy efficiency and why it is important. Where there is less certainty is when it comes to the ‘how’ of efficiency. This includes questions like what types of energy efficiency policy will be most effective? How can investment be scaled-up? What value can digitalisation bring in terms of improving policy effectiveness and efficiency performance?...continue reading.

Building EuroPACE Momentum Across Europe

EuroPACE team participated and spoke at multiple events this past month to promote the project.
GNE Finance was invited to join the "Energy transition opportunities for the Spanish and European economies" event organized in Madrid by BBVA, EU-ASE and the Grupo Espanol Crecimento Verde. EuroPACE was mentioned as one of the solutions for Spanish clean energy transition. Overall, the event underscored the urgency for home and building renovation, transport improvement and infrastructure regeneration.
Dominique Ristori, Director-General of DG Energy, European Commission noted: “Climate change is an important opportunity for improving the environment, the economy and people's lives in Europe”
Valvanera Ulargui,  Director General, Spanish Climate Change Office noted: “We are all committed to the energy transition and the fight against climate change, but the time has come to generate actual facts and data. At COP 24 we will give a message of ambition and urgency for action”
GNE Finance attended the launch of the Buildings 2030 and Buildings Performance Institute Europe study "Building 4 People: Quantifying the impact of a better indoor environment in schools, offices and hospitals." The study can be downloaded here. The study found that  people-centric office renovation can lead to up to a 12% in employee productivity and can be worth €500 billion annually.
"Energy renovation of buildings in the EU is a win-win for the EU economy as a whole, and will help address the issue of energy poverty as well as boost labour force productivity, accelerate educational performance and reduce the average length of stay in hospitals." noted Theresa Griffin, MEP, Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, UK
