Moving forward: The Social Green Recovery

Guiding principles for a recovery that benefits all Europeans
In our last newsletter, we highlighted the importance of incorporating clean energy initiatives in stimulus packages aimed at tackling the post-COVID-19 economic recovery. As we are currently looking at European countries gradually implementing 'phase-out' scenarios to lift COVID-19 emergency restrictions on public and commercial life, we are devoted to putting words into action in order to achieve the Social Green Recovery.
  • The recovery must be social, because every European citizen has a right to a home that functions as a safe haven where their health, comfort and productivity is optimal. Leaving vulnerable groups behind is unacceptable; we have the opportunity to create jobs and alleviate energy poverty by making accessible financing available to all.

  • The needs of our planet and future generations dictate that the recovery must be green, which is the only suitable long-term scenario for avoiding climate catastrophes and future health crises such as the one we are facing today.
At EuroPACE, we are putting our weight into the scale to make the Social Green Recovery a reality, by providing innovative financing tools that are aimed at sustainable and efficient home renovations and which are within every European citizen's reach.

Opinion piece: Building energy efficient, sustainable homes for all
An opinion piece by GNE Finance CEO and founder Davide Cannarozzi was published on Foresight's website on the 20th of April. In it, Mr Cannarozzi elaborates on all the aspects of our home's health and living conditions that have come to the forefront during the current crisis.
Building further on this, he makes a compelling statement on the great potential to boost the clean energy transition embedded in the EU Recovery Package and the need to make our stance on this unequivocally known to European policy makers.

In line with the above, a clear message was sent on the 30th of April when Renovate Europe launched a proposal to the European Commission, pleading for the creation of a Renovation Fund for All Europeans.
The fund aims to make energy renovations of buildings a key catalyst in Europe's post-COVID-19 rehabilitation. GNE Finance is a proud signatory of this initiative, which should be considered to be an indispensable element of the EU Recovery Plan.
