September Volunteer of the Month

Shari is consistent and always available. She will fill in in a pinch; neither rain, sleet, snow or adversity will keep her away from her responsibilities.

Shari loves and is exceptional in her work with students and groups. She’s got a quirky sense of humour - word play is huge, she’s very punny and always bringing a smile to someone’s face.

Shari has overcome many life challenges and is an example of an advocate for safe housing. You can read more about her origin story with HOPE House here; but Shari's very condensed version is thus:

Hi, I came to HOPE House looking for winter boots. I found out soon after that they needed help in the Food Market.  Since my life was so messed up I thought "hey this might be a good fit for me!"

Feb 2020 is my third year with the Food Market and I enjoy helping out however I can. HOPE House has helped me change my life, as there are different programs offered & they helped me! If you want to volunteer, it helps put stability in your life. Just having a place to sit and chat and nibble away on food can help out! The reason I stay is because I love what I do and that is very important to me!

HOPE House Volunteer Appreciation at Borealis Grille & Bar

From Tuesday, January 14 to Sunday, January 26 get 20% off a specially prepared 3-Course Dinner.

Every January Borealis starts the new year off with their Northern Lights Food Festival. This year their Northern Lights program will run from Tuesday January 14 to Sunday January 26 and they will be featuring a specially prepared 3-Course Dinner for $34.99 per person.

What is extra special about this year’s program, explains Kaleigh, Borealis General Manager, is that Borealis Bar & Grille will be donating $5 from every Northern Lights Dinner purchased to HOPE House. In addition, during the entire month of January $0.50 from every pint of Sleeman Brewery sold will also be donated to our organization.
This program is part of our Neighbourhood Good initiatives where Borealis works to generate funds to help transform the life of people, to build up the life of Guelph neighbourhoods and to sustain the life of the environment.
Borealis is offering the staff and volunteers of HOPE House a 20% Discount at Borealis Grille & Bar during the Northern Lights Food Festival as a show of our gratitude and appreciation for all of the wonderful work we do in helping community.

To get your discount, simply ask Gillian or Kim for a copy of the letter Borealis wrote on our behalf and present at your meal.
