The CRC Newsletter will return with full content in January 2019, but for now, here is an abbreviated THE CONFERENCE IS COMING! version.

Let’s make it a December to remember Coral Restoration Community-

Reef Futures 2018 is almost here! Pack your bags and get ready for December 10-15 in sunny Key Largo, Florida (USA)!

  • Book your airport shuttle TO Ocean Reef Club by December 8th, and book your shuttle back to Miami Airport by December 13th.

  • If you didn’t get your tickets to the Closing Reception, there will be a small number available at the Registration Desk the week of the conference!!! This will be a great night with a live band, awards, and local NGOs and nonprofits highlighting their local efforts at Key Largo’s historic Caribbean Club with locally catered food from Chef Drew’s Food Truck!

  • Attendees: please check out the FAQs, Attendee TO DO List, and 1 WEEK OUT  information! These pages have content on what to bring, what to wear, and how to get around.

  • Some events are outside in the evening and the forecast is for nice but cool weather.  Pack appropriately.

  • There are now a few regular rooms now available at the Ocean Reef Club, or consider a multi-room condo or alternative accommodations.

  • Check out the DAILY and WEEKLY agendas for an overview of the week, and check out the PROGRAM for speaker and session information. You can now “💛Add Sessions to your Schedule” and build your calendar for the week.

  • We will be having a Celebration of Life for Dr. Ruth Gates Tuesday evening at the opening reception in addition to the live band.  We hope you can come out to celebrate the work of this pioneer in coral reef restoration and “optimist’s optimist” in the face of global climate change.

  • On Wednesday (12/12) evening, during happy hour, we will be sharing stories of Fieldwork Failures. #FieldworkFail. Come prepared to share near death experiences, amazing ideas that went absolutely nowhere, and more hilarious stories. The aim is to learn from each other in an informal environment. Please bring photos and/or videos to support your jokes. A certificate and Reef Futures swag will be provided to the winner based on voting from the audience.

  • The CRC Field-based Propagation and Monitoring Working Groups are developing Best Management Guidelines that will be highlighted at Reef Futures. Please help them!

    • How do you choose your nursery site? (If you work in multiple locations - one form per location.)

    • We re developing a global database for nurseries and outplant sites, and we need your help! We have a Caribbean prototype, but we need your assistance to fill in data gaps. We are hosting the Monitoring Metrics Interactive Workshop at the Reef Futures 2018 Symposium on Wednesday December 12, which will provide an opportunity in 15 minute time slots to try the interactive map, enter data, and give us feedback on ease of use, information collected, and utility. Sign up on the Reef Futures website.  We have Excel spreadsheets for nursery information and outplant information that can be populated ahead of the conference and brought with you to the workshop. If you are not planning to attend the conference or workshop, you can send your completed spreadsheet to to be added to the database.
