What can you do now?
Santa Fe Dreamers Project is looking for a volunteer to accompany one of their clients to his asylum interview in El Paso on December 12. If you are able to help, please contact Allegra.
The Diocese of Las Cruces reports that ICE has been releasing mothers and children without pre-alert. One night 30 people arrived with little or no notice, including 10 babies.
Immediate material needs include:
diapers (size 3 and up, no pull ups)
small packages of wipes
twin size WHITE sheets and towels
big black trash bags
small toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc)
coloring books + crayons
underwear + socks
The Diocese of Las Cruces provides support to these families through their Project Oak Tree. In addition to material aids, they are also in need of cash donations to help purchase cell phones, travel tickets, and ‘lunch money’ for those en route to join family members elsewhere in the US.
Checks can be sent as follows:
Payable to: Diocese of Las Cruces
Memo: Project Oak Tree
Mail to: Pastoral Center, 1280 Med Park, Las Cruces, NM 88005
We are working with the Monte del Sol Charter School's Casa Program for homeless families, many of whom are immigrant families.
One family ('Family 08') has suffered with the father facing deportation. The older children and mother are all working in order to support the family financially in this difficult time with a breadwinner facing deportation.
Particular needs for Family 08 at this time include:
-financial help with rent
-leads on affordable housing
-leads on affordable daycare
-size 1-2 diapers
Another family in the program is a single mother and two teens. The mother is seeking more work in catering/banquets to support her family. Her primary ask at this time is for work. Any leads for work can be sent via email to Dr. Cate Moses, program director for the Casa Program.
You can also support the Casa Program's annual gofundme campaign here: https://www.gofundme.com/support-our-casa-program. Please share.
To donate via check: make checks payable to The Foundation for Monte del Sol, and write "Casa Program" on the note line. If you'd like to donate specifically for rent for Family 08, please be sure to note on the check "Casa Program--Family 08". 100% of the funds designated in this way will go directly to help this family with rent and expenses.
Checks should be mailed to Attn: Dr. Cate Moses, Casa Program, Monte del Sol Charter School, 4157 Walking Rain Road, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
