CTSA Program Connects Scientists and Communities

October is Health Literacy Month, a “time to recognize the importance of making health information easy to understand and the healthcare system easier to navigate.”

Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program institutions are working to improve health literacy to address the CTSA Program’s goal of “engag[ing] patients and communities in every phase of the translational process.” This month, we’re sharing different approaches hubs are taking to improve their communities' understanding of health topics.

CLIC Cohorts for Change Resources

The Cohorts for Change series kicked off with the workshop “Foundations for Change: Becoming a Culture-Centered Community of Practice.” This workshop focused on how to talk about racism and racial equity with radical candor, as well as understand key terms related to racial equity work. The workshops are limited to selected participants but topic pages are open to all.

Utilization of Narrative Intervention/Storytelling for Applications in Research Participation and Informed Consent

This webinar will provide an overview of the process and application of storytelling as a tool to increase awareness about research participation among underrepresented populations. The process includes adaptations of communications models as well as the health belief model. Video production and qualitative analysis are combined to increase objectivity in preserving storytellers’ voices.

Associations between HIV Infection and Clinical Spectrum of COVID-19: A Population Level Analysis Based on US National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) Data


Evidence of whether people living with HIV are at elevated risk of adverse COVID-19 outcomes is inconclusive. This study investigates this association using the population-based National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) data in the USA.
