Band Booster Meeting
Next Tuesday (Feb 18th) @ 7:00 pm

As you know, our band booster meetings are always the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Due to the 7th & 8th grade pre-festival concerts we had to move the band booster meeting back a week.  Our next band booster meeting will be next Tuesday, February 18th.

If you have not attended a band booster meeting yet, we encourage you to do so as all band parents (6th-12th) are invited!

Band programs can only grow if they have the support of the parents behind them. Please get involved, you will be glad you did!
Hudsonville Invitational
Saturday, February 22nd!

This year Hudsonville will be hosting 32 teams at our invitational! We will have 6 Drumlines, 1 wind (for those that don't know, this is like a mini marching band) and 25 Color Guards!

Come and support our students as well as see a variety of performers from middle school students to college students perform.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and 5 and under are FREE.

Visit to see the schedule for the day.  If you want to see a certain group, you will want to make sure you are in the doors before they begin as the doors to the gym will shut and you can't go in or out when a group is performing.
Our teams perform as follows:

Hudsonville Percussion  @ 11:50 am
Hudsonville Junior Regional A  @ 1:30 pm
Hudsonville Scholastic AA @ 3:33 pm

Volunteers Make a Difference
First off I would like to say Thank you to Annette McBride & Melissa Feenstra for all your work on the Sub Sale!  Also to the McBride family, Christy DeBoer, Sandra & Rachel VanDyke, the Alberda family and I apologize as I didn't catch your name, the Grandma & Granddaughter that handed our the orders at the sub sale pick-up! These families worked long and hard trying to get all the orders pulled in such a short amount of time before they got to go out making their deliveries.  THANK YOU!

We all have our things we are good at.   If one of these positions are something you can help us with, we would GREATLY appreciate it if you sign up!  PLEASE don't wait and think someone else will do it, because before long everyone is waiting and the positions don't get filled which end up hurting our kids.

Pie Sale Co-Chair for this year!
This March we will once again be having our Pie Sale.  More information will be coming out next month regarding this sale and the need for volunteers to make the pies, but we are in need of 1 more person to help co-chair this fundraiser as it's a little bit to much for 1 person.  If you can help Tracey Hartman run this years pie sale, please contact Tracey at traceyhartman37@gmail.comIt is important we find someone asap!
FYI.. most of the work for the co-chair is already completed.  One of the main things she will need help with is overlooking the set-up and pie making on April 24th & 25th.  If you decide to be a co-chair for this fundraiser, you will NOT be able to help make pies.  You job that day (April 25th) is to watch over things, move finished pies to the correct tables, and help out if any problem arise.

Sports Concession Coordinator
You will be working with Craig Foupht and will be responsible for organizing, running and getting volunteers for concessions at the Thursday night JV football games in the fall and track meets in the spring.  It would be great to get someone this spring so they can learn the ropes for next fall!

If you have any questions or think this is a position you might be interested in, please contact Suzanne Gortsema @

Marching Band Uniform Co-Lead

Marching Band Parents:  This position has to be one of the most rewarding positions as you get to work with every single one of the marching band students!  The great thing about this position is you will get to work along side Stephanie Smith who learned from the best this past year!  It is a lot of work for one parent and she is requesting we find another parent to help her share the duties.

The uniform leads would consist of the following....

• Fit students for uniforms during marching band, along with other parent volunteers.
• Create uniform washing schedule, coordinate washings with sub-team of parents.
• Label student uniforms and organize them on mobile racks.
• Maintain inventory of student uniform assignments in Charms.
• Alert band director to uniform needs (gloves, pants, jackets) so needed items can be ordered.
• Prep uniforms for travel (putting them in garment bags), ensure they are ready at the proper time for the Transportation team to load onto the trailer.
• Provide support to band members when they get into uniform and at performance locations (for stadium jacket distribution and to handle any unexpected uniform issues).
• Care for wet uniforms, shakos (hats), stadium jackets after students have performed in adverse conditions (spreading them out to dry).
• Train students on uniform care expectations (how they should be hung on hanger, etc).

If you are interested in helping Stephanie with Uniforms or if you would like to learn more about it, please contact Stephanie at

Direct Your Dollar Receipts
If you have any Family Fare / D&W receipts laying around and would like to donate them to Hudsonville Bands you can do one of two things.
  1. Have your student bring them to band and put them in their direct your dollars box located in the front of their classroom.  If they don't see the box, please have them ask their director.
  2. Bring them to the band booster meeting next Tuesday night.

The more families we have donating their receipts, the faster we can raise another $1,000 for our kids!

We are currently at $98,821!   Let's see if we can hit the $150,000 by the end of this school year!  THANK YOU!
High School Notes

Orlando details are being worked out.  Sign ups will happen soon!  Watch your email!

HS Students can start working on music for Solo and Ensemble night.  This optional performance is on May 8 in the auditorium at the Freshman Campus.  Students prepare solos or ensembles and perform on our beautiful stage.

The next HS band concert is May 6.  Due to the length of this concert, we decided to try something new this year and will be having 2 different concerts.   The bands and times will be as listed:
  • 1st hour, 3rd hour, winter percussion and SA Guard will perform at 7:00 pm.
  • 4th hour, 5th hour, SAA guard and JRA guard will perform at 8:15 pm.
Please note: You are more than welcome to come and watch both concerts if you would like.
Marching Band

Marching band sign ups are happening now!   Students who know they would like to march in the 2020 Hudsonville Marching Band need to do the following 2 things:

1. Add marching band as a class for next fall
2. Fill out the registration form on the front of our website.

**  If your student is not 100% sure if they would like to join marching band and/or you would like to learn more about it, there is a informational meeting on February 25th @ 7:30 pm in the freshman campus band room.   This is a great opportunity for new families to learn about our marching band program and to ask questions.
Last year we started a facebook group for marching band parents (students are welcome to join as well) where we can chat among each other, ask questions, where the emails from Mr. VanderWall get posted (so you don't have to search through your emails to find his last email) and where we could post pictures.  If your student is going to participate in Marching Band next year and you're on Facebook, please join our group!  We would love to get to know you!

Winter Color Guard

We would like to wish our Scholastic A guard best wishes and safe travels as they will be traveling to Indianapolis to compete with the best at the WGI Regional competition February 14-16.  We know you will do great!

Baldwin Street Jazz Band

We will once again be offering a jazz band opportunity for BMS 7th and 8th grade students this year. Participation is completely optional for those students that wish to perform, but it is highly recommended that once a student commits to playing they attend all rehearsals and performances. It is a TON of fun anyways, so once your student joins, they will be hooked!
Students that perform on the following instruments (primary or secondary) are encouraged to try jazz band:

Alto Sax
Tenor Sax
Bari Sax
Guitar (Bass/Electric)
Percussion (Drum Set/Keyboards)

There will not be any sign-up sheet this round. Students who did not participate in the fall only need to give Mr. Jacobs a head’s up that they are attending in the Winter/Spring session.

All Rehearsals will be held in the BMS Band Room from 3:00pm - 3:45pm. This schedule is designed to alleviate conflicts with sports.

NEW to Winter/Spring 2020: Students may NOT enter the Band/Orchestra room prior to Mr. Jacobs being present. Setup on most Mondays will begin at 2:45pm. Students should wait in the hallway/storage room if Mr. Jacobs is not present.
