Tuesday @ 7:30 pm

This Tuesday is the first band concert of the year for Hudsonville Bands and we hope you can make it.  This year our 1st & 4th hour bands will be performing as well as our Jazz Band and Marching Band.  (Please note: the color guard will not be attending this year due to the number of color guard member and lack of room)

Our Band Boosters will have a table set up in the cafeteria!  Please feel free to swing on by and ask them any questions you might have.  At the Band Booster table, they will have a Direct Your Dollars box so you can turn in any Family Fare / D&W receipts you have laying around, as well as the KeyCard Books!  If you would like to buy a book or if you have an order you would like to turn in, you can do so then and you will be able to go home with all your books that night!   It would be great if we could go through a box of books at this concert!
Friday Night Football
with Hudsonville 8th Graders!
This week is the week our 8th grade and Marching Band members have been waiting and practicing for, the football game where our 8th grade band members join the High School Marching Band pregame to play the National Anthem and school fight song!

Thursday night, both the 8th grade bands as well as the marching band will be practicing at BSMS.

Marching Band:  Practice will start at 6, please make sure you arrive early enough to be on the field ready to play at 6!

8th Graders:  Please be at BSMS by 7:20 we we can be lined up, ready to start practicing at 7:30!   Our goal is to be done by 9pm!

Parents: PLEASE plan on staying and watching!  These 2 nights are such big nights for our 8th graders and I know they would love nothing more than to share it with you.  PLUS, we will be having a dedication of our new band trailer with our administration!   Last year the front gate was locked. If by chance that happens again, please follow the path behind the home stands and enter the football stadium that way.

On Friday, the 8th grade students are asked to meet at BSMS by 6pm.  At 6:10 they will be getting into block formation and will be stepping off at 6:15pm!  Students should be in full uniform upon arrival: Athletic shoes/socks, blue jeans with no holes, Hudsonville Bands Blue Shirt.
Marching Band
Results and Jenison's Competition

Thank you to all the Hudsonville fans that braved the cold and wind to watch the final run through at the freshman campus and for all the fans that came to Grandville to watch the band compete!  Our band marched away with a 2nd place finish with a score of 85.0!

This week, the Hudsonville Marching Band will be traveling to our other neighbor to the east, Jenison, for their next competition.  Since this is our last close competition and one of the most important ones , it would be great if we could fill as much of the stands as we can with Hudsonville Band fans.  Let's show our kids how much we support them by cheering them on!

If you would like to support the band Saturday, there are 2 ways you can support them.

5:00 pm - Hudsonville will be having their final run at the Freshman Campus
Let's see if we can get the most spectators yet for this final run!

9:02 pm - Hudsonville will be taking the field @ Jenison High School.

Ticket Prices @ Jenison
Adults - $8.00
Students (K-12) and Seniors - $6.00
Family (Maximum of 2 adults) - $24
Direct Your Dollars Update
I am excited to say that this month Hudsonville Band families brought it $17,015 worth of Family Fare/D&W receipts!!  Way to go band families!  If we keep this pace, we should be able to raise another $1000 for our bands by the end of the year!

Our new total is $58,040!  We are over a 1/3 of the way there!

Don't forget to ask your friends/family if they have any receipts they would like to donate as well!   If so, they can either give them to you, or they can turn them in at the band booster table at any of our concerts!
Help Needed

To help our bands run smooth, we do need to rely on volunteers.  We have some open positions that are coming up, but the most important one is the first one on the list as the pie sale will be here before you know it.  If you would like to step up and help Hudsonville Bands by co-chairing the pie sale or being on the uniform committee, please email Mike Meengs at

Pie Sale Co-Chairs:  Tracey Hartman, one of our HS Band moms, has agreed to be one of the Co-Chairs for our pie sale in March/April, but we are still looking for 1-2 more volunteers to help her co-chair this fundraiser. The prior pie committee already has the dates set for the pie making (April 17th & 18th) and they already have the forms and emails you would need to send out on the google drive.

The responsibilities for the co-chairs would include:
Before the Pie Making Date
  • Communication between the orchard and the other groups we will be selling/working with. (Hudsonville Robotics & Hudsonville Travel.  We still need to find one more Hudsonville team)
  • Making sure all the band directors get the order forms right before the pie sale begins.
  • Have the volunteer lists get put in Charms.
  • Have Mr VanderWall reserve the HS Cafeteria and contact the custodians to make sure the doors will be open for the pie weekend and we will have enough tables,
  • Collect the orders at the end of the sale and log them into the spreadsheet (that will be provided as well)
  • Call the orchard with the numbers of apple & blueberry pies that the band needs.
Pie Making Weekend
  • Thursday, email all the volunteers their what to expect list.
  • Friday have Jen Alberda send out a reminder email via charms regarding picking up pies.
  • Friday:  Arrive to the school the same time as the Orchard to help get things set up.  (You will also have a crew of volunteers to help with set up, do the fruit prep and make boxes)
  • Saturday:  Arrive early to set up signs and make sure everything is ready to go for when the volunteers start arriving. You will NOT be working on the production line. Your job is to just make sure everything runs smooth and be there in case a problem arises.  Last year the pie committee ended up moving pies from the completed table to the Robotics, Travel & Band tables so they would be ready for pick-up.

Marching Band Uniform Committee: Stephanie Smith has agreed to take on the Uniform Chair position for the 2020-2021 marching band season, but we are still looking for 1-2 more volunteers to fill the uniform committee.  If you have a student that is planning on being in next years Marching Band, please consider signing up for this position.  It's a great way to get to know all the marching band members.

The responsibilities for the Uniform Committee are as follows:
  • Fit students for uniforms during marching band, along with other parent volunteers.
  • Create uniform washing schedule, coordinate washings with sub-team of parents.
  • Label student uniforms and organize them on mobile racks.
  • Maintain inventory of student uniform assignments in Charms
  • Alert band director to uniform needs (gloves, pants, jackets) so needed items can be ordered
  • Prep uniforms for travel (putting them in garment bags), ensure they are ready at the proper time for the Transportation team to load onto the trailer.
  • Provide support to band members when they get into uniform and at performance locations (for stadium jacket distribution and to handle any unexpected uniform issues)
  • Care for wet uniforms, shakos (hats), stadium jackets after students have performed in adverse conditions (spreading them out to dry).
  • Train students on uniform care expectations (how they should be hung on hanger, etc).

Band Booster Meeting

Thank you to the 22 parents and Hudsonville Band fans and director that attended our Band Booster meeting this month.

For those that don't know, due to us voting and approving that night, we do put the Financials right away in Charms.  (When you log into Charms, click on Handouts & Files, then click on Treasurer Reports)    The minutes from this month will be put in next month due to we have to vote on them being correct.  You can look at past months minutes if you would like.  They too are in Charms under Current Band Booster Minutes.  That is where we will put all the ones for this school year.  Otherwise you can also read the minutes on our website.

Our next Band Booster meeting will be held November 12th @ 7:00 PM in the Freshman Campus Media Room.   We did make an event on Facebook. If you are on Facebook and are interested in going, please click on interested or going as that way Facebook will remind you when it's getting close. ;)
We would like to get more parents in attendance this year as we have over 500 students in Hudsonville Bands and we usually average 20-25 people in attendance. (that's including the band directors & band booster board).  Don't let a few people be responsible on making decisions for our whole bands.

FYI, It does take a village to run a successful band, lets see if we can all do our part.  You can do that by volunteering for things like concessions, helping run fundraisers, chaperoning when the bands go places, helping many ways with the marching band, working at the fair and by attending band booster meetings.
         Marching Band
Halloween Party

Marching Band students:  Just a heads up, there will be a Halloween Party on Halloween at 5pm (after your practice). We will be putting a sign up sheet in the band room so we will have an idea of how many kids will be attending.  Please feel free to dress up as there will be games, candy and treats!  If you went last year, you know it's a lot of fun.
Marching Band Parents:   We are looking for some help with the Halloween Party . It will be held after practice (5pm) on Thursday, October 31 in the high school cafeteria. Here are some ways you can help:
  • Plan and run 3-4 "Minute to Win It" type games.
  • Set up at 4pm
  • Clean up at 6:30pm
  • *$5 and $10 gift cards for prizes   -  If you plan on donating a gift card, don't forget you can order from Scrip! Just make sure you order it this week or last week latest as we would like them all turned in by next Saturday the 26th.
  • CANDY DONATIONS! There will be a box in the band room or you can find Amy Breuer before or after any home game or competition.

You are also welcome to just come and hang out with the kids during the party.

If you would like to help out with this event, please let Amy know. You can contact her via Facebook (Amy Joy Breuer) or you can email her at

Thank you!
