It's Tax Time, We're Here for You

Need help heading off tax issues before they start? Need help reaching the right contacts at the various government agencies who can help expedite processing of paperwork? We're here for you. California State PTA has a dedicated tax support specialist available to offer tips and direct you to help.

California State PTA also offers tax workshops/filing help at various trainings and has helped hundreds of units file their postcards and charitable trust renewals over the last few years. While we can’t file the long-form taxes for you, we are here to support you in the process. Click the link below for helpful tips and all the ways we can support your PTA during tax time.

Tips to Attract Local Leaders

Struggling to recruit local volunteer leaders? You are not alone. Filling a vacant board position or committee chair is not only important to your plans this year — it's key to building leadership for the long-term vitality of your association.

Here are some ideas for how to connect with your members and encourage them to take on a leadership role.

1. Hone your leadership team’s skills - Start by taking a look at our Tips for Leaders
2. Consider doing less this year - Scale back and focusing on doing 3 to 5 events really well.
3. Make participation easy - Divide work into smaller tasks with shorter timeframes.
4. Use the buddy system to get the work done - Did you know your president may appoint an assistant to any officer for support?
5. Expand your reach through purposeful inclusion - Are there individuals in your community that want to help, but are limited to needing things they can do from home?
6. PTAs can and should be creative - Connect with nearby PTAs to share ideas, success stories and pool resources.

Taking Personal Responsibility for Cybersecurity

Over the past 18 months we have become increasingly dependent on the internet to learn, to connect with each other, to shop for necessities, and to stay entertained.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is an ideal chance for families to learn more about what they can personally do to stay safe online. Click the link below to read our recent article on cybersecurity.

California Supports Diversity with New Ethnic Studies Graduation Requirement

With the governor’s signing of Assembly Bill (AB) 101 Ethnic Studies (Medina), California is the first state in the country to require that every high school student take an ethnic studies course in order to graduate. Click the link below to learn more about the timeline and new requirements.

PTA Helps You Reach Everyone in Your Community

“Every child, one voice” is more than a slogan for National PTA. They are providing local leaders with some great resources for building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive PTA, including:

A YouTube series called “10 Minutes to PTA the Transformative Way” that tackles topics that bring family engagement and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) together.

Those videos are part of a National PTA Learning Series that is rich with other videos and supports for local PTAs.

There’s also a webinar to help you effectively use tools designed to turn your commitment to DEI into action, including a diversity profile, a DEI facilitator’s guide, and a DEI action plan template.
