Come Work the LWVHC Apple Festival Booth!

Enthusiastic volunteers are needed to hand out information about voting and register voters Friday-Sunday September 2-4 from 9:30 AM - 8 PM. Shifts vary in length from 2-3 hours. We will train you to register voters. For more information:  Email Apple Festival Booth.

The Library of Congress By the People program offers the opportunity to be a virtual volunteer to transcribe and review important documents of U.S. history. All the information you need to start the process can be found at VOLUNTEER HERE.

Currently there are projects on Women’s Suffrage, Civil War Justice, Clara Barton, and many more. You can participate as little or as much as you like. It’s a great way to see these primary documents and to know that you are contributing to an in-depth look at American history.

YOU Can Help Students Learn How Democracy Works

Students Voting For Democracy (SVFD) is looking for a Co-Chair and volunteers to help maintain, implement, and update our award-winning Civics Mini-Program.
Created by the League of Women Voters of Henderson County, the Students Voting For Democracy (SVFD) civics program has been maintained and produced during every presidential and midterm election cycle since 2014 with the League's partner and host, the Henderson County Public Schools.

Children who learn the importance of practicing voting and becoming comfortable with voting in school are more likely continue to exercise their right and responsibility to vote as adults.

If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact Bettie Liebzeit, SVFD Co-Chair.  Find more detailed information about SVFD HERE.

The LWVHCNC Board of Directors has two new officers for 2022-23. We thank them for serving, and they look forward to meeting you at an event soon.

       Cindi Sthreshley, Vice President

Cindi moved here from Ohio in 2011 and retired from a 30-year nursing career. She created a home staging company and after selling that company, went into Real Estate with her husband. She serves as a Deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church, volunteers with Meals on Wheels and the Carolina Real Estate Investment Association. When not working, she loves to spend time with her family, hike, read, and play with Harper, her new puppy. She joined the League last year in an effort to promote democracy, safeguard voter rights and encourage people to find their voice in local government.

               Nancy Pellegrini, Treasurer
Nancy hails from Northern Wisconsin where, in her youth, she earned her private pilot’s license and joined Amelia Earhart’s The Ninety-Nines flying club. She was the first female air traffic controller to serve in the FAA’s Green Bay Tower. After transfers to Alton IL and Daytona Beach FL, she landed in Fayetteville NC. As a proud PATCO member fired by Ronald Reagan in 1981, she earned her paralegal degree and spent 30 years in Charlotte law firms and at United Dominion Industries where she created their corporate travel program. Since moving full time to Hendersonville in 2015, Nancy volunteers for Project Dignity, NC SHIIP, Four Seasons Hospice, WNCW, NC Arboretum, Conserving Carolina and Etowah Elementary School, among others. She and her husband are avid birders often traveling to Central and South America. She hopes to do her small part for LWV helping to preserve democracy in America.
