Lakehead is hosting a week-long series of events focused on helping students, staff and faculty find their path to positive mental well-being and resilience. We are excited to move this program virtually in 2021 and learn how to thrive from home.

Some highlights include a virtual thrive kit to send to friends, classmates, students or colleagues, a cooking demo with Chef Jen Sauve as she takes a noodle bowl twist to the traditional spaghetti and meatballs, the launch of our Peer Wellness Educators Peer Chat and an art and yoga workshop with Thunder Bay artist, Vik Wilen.

All events are free and open to all Lakehead students, faculty and staff unless otherwise noted. Check out the entire schedule  and register for events at

Newyearnewyou? January is a time where a lot of people set ambitious goals for the new year. If you have already found your motivation waning- check out a recent WellU article on making habits stick.

Contrary to popular belief, you can actually start a new resolution on any day so if you haven't thought of one yet, get on it! Get some inspiration from this article on how to 'reboot your brain' after a challenging year. 

Embracing the cold weather. The pandemic and public health guidelines might have you spending a lot more time in the great outdoors but it was easier to head outside when the temperature was in the positives.  While in the past couple of years the Danish Hygge has made its way into our culture, it is time to adopt a new concept from Scandivia- friluftsliv
Friluftsliv literally means "free air life" in Norwegian and is used often to describe a way of life that is spent exploring and appreciating nature. Check out

COVID Burnout. This week Ontario announced a stay at home order that will last until at least February. This news may have upset or frustrated you- it seems like we have been doing this forever. It can help to keep things in perspective- read this article on why your sacrifices still matter.

LU Mental Health Peer Support Group
Offers peer support to students struggling with their mental health. The club also aims to assist with any mental health struggles by coordinating free workshops comprising of a combination of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) workshops.
