February Newsletter

A message from our Executive Director, Jonah Chiarenza –

Our work is getting noticed! In the last quarter we raised $140,000 in multi-year commitments from our foundation supporters.

So... why do we still want your membership contributions of $25, $50, $75, or $100?

It’s simple! Our funders want to see an engaged and committed membership, who give what they can to support our advocacy, trail expansion, and DEI engagement with under-resourced communities.

Give today to show your support and get us to our goal of $12,000 and 300 members!
I'd like to become a B2C Member!

Northern Strand Trail Lighting Completed in Everett

A big thank you to the City of Everett staff, MassDOT and National Grid who coordinated and helped to complete the lighting installation underneath the Route 16 overpass! The lights are so bright and helpful to see any obstructions along the trail especially at night. The entire Everett section of the Northern Strand Trail is now officially with lighting!

Upcoming B2C Events

Join us on Tuesday, February 13th at 7pm on Zoom for a screening of "Understory”, a locally-produced film about Malden that examines the relationship between nature, community, and identity, and features the Northern Strand Trail.

There will be a panel discussion with the creators after the film.
Register here to receive the zoom meeting link!

Did you know there's a trail counter on the Northern Strand in Malden? We had the most use in August 2023 with close to 40,000 people walking, biking, and rolling. Last month, the trail saw around 12,000 users. When was the last time you used the trail and why? Let us know by writing to us at news@biketothesea.org. We'd love to hear from you!

Our Flagship Sponsors:

Support Bike to the Sea

Since 1993 Bike to the Sea (B2C) is proud to have helped advocate for the current community trail from Everett to Saugus, and secure the funding and design for paving the last stretches in between Saugus, Lynn, and Nahant. Soon anyone will be able to go from Somerville all the way to the Nahant beach on a car-free path! Our focus moving forward will be to continually improve safety, accessibility, ecology, and commerce along the path, increase its use and enjoyment, and help add new car-free connections along the way.
