Lyme Disease is on the rise in NB - diagnosis and treatment is not
This week I hosted an MLA roundtable on Lyme disease with Lyme NB. Lyme is a debilitating disease that is on the rise thanks to climate change. All MLAs have constituents in their ridings that are affected and we need to be informed so we can take appropriate action.
This first-ever event of its kind brought together legislators, medical professionals, and patients. There was a great turnout, with MLAs from all 4 political parties and over 110 attendees in total.
Lyme disease (LD) is a relatively new disease in New Brunswick and is increasing with climate change. The goal of this roundtable was to increase awareness among MLAs so they can take appropriate action. The experts present were:
Dr. Duncan Webster, an infectious diseases specialist at the Saint John Regional Hospital
Dr. Ralph Hawkins, a clinical associate professor at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine
Dr. Vett Lloyd, a biology professor at Mount Allison University
