We always have a lot going on at MERA!
Stay up to date using our Facebook page and the MERA website!
Nice to meet you! I'm Alexis, I'm the new administrator at MERA. I'm so excited to join this amazing community and I thought I would take a minute to introduce myself. After living in multiple cities, I have returned to my roots here in Lanark County. I am a theatre artist, and I've been involved in the arts for most of my life. I have many talents, and I hope to never stop being curious and discovering. I feel like many of you creative people might be able to relate? I look forward to meeting you all! Drop me a line anytime!

MERA is waiting on an update from Ontario Health on how to proceed with vaccine passports. In the mean time, COVID protocols for MERA remain the same. Masks are still required inside the schoolhouse and you must remain 6ft apart when possible. Please do not crowd the hallways or doorways. The kitchen is open for limited use. Please ensure you wipe everything down as required by the health unit and wash & put all items away.

Celebrate with us!
The 2021 Award of Excellence in the Fine Arts and Crafts is September 24th, 4-5:30 PM. An award reception and show for the winner, painter Fred Fowler, and runners up Catherine Orfald and Cheryl Straby will be held indoors at the schoolhouse. Pictured here are the three artists putting their work on display in Dean Hall. These works will be on display until the end of the month. Come and see!

Join us September 18th 10 am - 4 for an outdoor art show featuring the work of local artists and artisans. Come and join the masquerade! Visitors and exhibitors are invited to come to the show wearing a mask. Be as creative as you like! Masks can be large or small, head or face covering. However, they must comply with the health rules and cover the mouth and nose.

Special features will include the "cruise and reuse show" by the MERA art circle and children will be invited to paint a mural. Rain date is September 19.

Cozy up with a book this fall. This month, Zoom book club is meeting September 28 7-9 PM. We will discussing two books: A Minute or Two/Without Remembering by Claudia Coutu Radmore and A Town Called Solace by Mary Lawson.
If you wish to join the book club, contact the schoolhouse at or contact Jean Dunning.

Artist of the month is back! Russ Paquette will be the Artist of the Month in October with a vernissage on October 17 2-4PM.

Exhibition Title: “Thresholds”
Bio/Artist Statement:
I am a full time acrylic painter presently residing in Ottawa.  I was trained as a commercial artist and as a career I designed and created commercial signage for many years.  I am represented by Orange Art Gallery in Ottawa and ADJA Studio & Gallery in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.  I am one of the teaching artists at Orange Gallery where I offer a course in architectural storefronts.
My studio is my sanctuary, full of light, music and peace.  My paintings are comprehensive and detailed.

My art is liminal, a threshold through different realities.  I want to be transparent so I shine the light on both my triumphs and my struggles.

I look for, and paint the sacred details that exist in and through everything.  I want to invite you to see with me the depth and detail of contemplative mystery.
