We always have a lot going on at MERA!
Stay up to date using our Facebook page and the MERA website!
How is drop-in month going? October is drop in month at MERA. Come and visit our regular activities (such as the art circle, knitting, weaving, pottery, book club and more) in October and be eligible for a membership until January. The most up to date calendar of events is on our website here. Visitors will be required to follow COVID protocols.
In order to continue to provide a safe environment for our members, we are asking that you please book your drop in time with MERA admin at meraschoolhouse@gmail.com.
Have a friend who might be interested in one of these groups? Share this newsletter with them, and invite them to "drop in"!

The Board understands that individual members of groups such as fabric arts and pottery may want to get into the school house to work on their projects at times other than their group has reserved.  We have decided that any member of any group (fully vaccinated) can go into MERA whenever they would like provided that they are not imposing on another group's reserved time in their area of the building.  Please check the MERA calendar before you go into the building.

Thank you all for your cooperation.

DANCE FOR THE JOY OF IT!

What and why?: Come enjoy 1.5 hours of free-form dance to a wide range of energizing music: belly-dance to classic rock... world beat to pop ... with some Latin and other flavours thrown in. This is your evening out if you are looking for a way to turn on “delight” (or “da light”) in the darker months of the year. Especially for people who don’t like following the leader, in this gathering we move for the fun of it. We end with twenty minutes of luxurious stretching.

Time and Place: Mondays 7 pm – 8:30 pm in Dean Hall at MERA in McDonald's Corners

Dates: Mondays October 18, 2021 to December 13, 2021 (Note there will be no classes on November 1st, 8th and 15th.)

COVID precautions:  In accordance with MERA and the Health Unit guidelines, I will ...
  • ask to see each dancer's proof they are double vaccinated
  • collect names and contact info for each class
  • make sure everyone has responded as needed to the covid screening questions before arrival
  • ask all to wear masks in and out of the building (but this is not required while dancing --  I would say we would wear masks all the time, but we learned they quickly get wet and then are useless.  The province allows people who are playing sports not to wear masks (see  O. Reg. 364/20: RULES FOR AREAS AT STEP 3 AND AT THE ROADMAP EXIT STEP, ). The masks will also keep our faces warm if we indulge in stargazing as has happened before.
  • Have a maximum of 8 dancers -- which is well above our usual turnout, but please be in touch with Christine if you are coming out for the first time.
What to bring:  Wear clothes that allow you to move. Dance in bare feet or shoes if you wish. Bring a water bottle. Mats are provided.

Cost:
  • MERA Members: $30 (for the 6 evenings); or $7 per evening drop in
  • Non-members: $40 (for the 6 evenings); or $9 per evening drop in
Christine Peringer, who lives near Hopetown, will guide the dance. She loves moving to a beat and choosing tunes that make people want to dance.

While she has been an aerobics instructor, a belly dancer and taken Nia white belt training, she still finds free-form dancing the most energizing and fun.

Contact Christine for more information by phone 613.259.2073 or email christine@peringer.ca.

BEREAVEMENT SESSIONS

The Sessions are facilitated by Grief Companions - Suzanne Ritchie and Laurie Lynn Clark. Both Suzanne and Laurie have experienced deep loss in their personal lives and are equipped with skills to hold a safe space for you to explore your grief. This 7 week bereavement session will connect people in the community through active listening, expressing and sharing each other's grief experience safely and confidentially. It is recommended that participants register for the full 7 week session so as to benefit through coming to know the pain that results from the many losses that we encounter in life. Although, participants are invited to try the first few zoom sessions to explore whether it is a good fit for their personal grief process.

Registration for this program is based on the donation principle to ensure its accessibility for all involved. All donations will be offered to MERA Schoolhouse.

This session begins on Monday October 18th, 2021 from 6 pm until 7:00 pm and will continue every Monday evening until November 29th, 2021.

Please register with Laurie Clark at laurieclark777@gmail.com.

Young Local Artist Featured at MERA’s November Art Exhibition

On Sunday November 7, 2:00 to 4:00 pm a vernissage will be held for MERA’s November exhibiting artist. This art show features the work of young, local artist Fiona Szabo.

Fiona Szabo began to paint at age 5. Now, at 11 years, Fiona has entered and won art competitions in Canada and the US. Her work is primarily acrylic on canvas and meticulously executed drawings. She draws her inspiration from her family, the natural and manmade world around her, and anything that piques her curiosity.

Fiona’s major project over the past two years has been a graphic novel drawn from her life and imagination. Panels from this work will be on display at MERA.
Inquiries about Fiona’s art or commission requests may be made through her Mom, Shelagh Chambers, at shelaghchambers@gmail.com.

For hours on when you can see this exhibition please contact Wayne Stryde gwstryde@outlook.com.
