The Church in the Garden Project.
Fantastic news - we have been awarded a grant for £2,500 from "Hope Beyond." This, along with donations from various individuals and organisations including our Village Pre-school who donated £250, has allowed us to:
  • Erect a privacy fence to protect our neighbour.
  • Planting up of that fence with Russian Vine and Rugosa Roses
We have accepted a quote for the first 2 raised beds to be built along with a retaining dwarf wall. These will be built in the next few weeks.

The next stage of the project will be to plant up the raised beds and then appeal for volunteers to come along to a working day for a couple of hours to help clear some of the surface rubble, brambles and ivy. Once we build up sufficient funds, we can bring in a small digger type of plant to turn the soil over and remove the deep lying rocks, rubble and roots. We can then hopefully start cultivating the larger part of the plot.

The whole project will take approximately 18 months to 2 years to complete and of course that depends upon funding.

Thank you to everyone who has already kindly donated money or are growing plants for us for when we can plant.

If you are a Church member and would like to donate, you can do this electronically through BACS, marked 'Garden' or post a cheque to Sharron Arnold marked 'Garden.'

The Annual Congregational Meeting will take place this week on Thursday May 6 on Zoom only.  (n.b., this is a change to the original plan).  The meeting will start at 6.00 pm with a short act of worship, led by Rev David McAloon.

Documents for the meeting are in the process of being circulated to members via e-mail.  Please look out for these in your in-box.  Any members not using email but who want a printed copy ahead of the meeting, may request this from the office or from Richard Arnold (, no later than Friday 30 April 2021 to enable timely delivery.

If you are not currently a member, but would like to join, please contact Sue Huntington at the office who will arrange for the necessary forms to be sent to you.
Christian Aid  This will be the second year where due to Covid 19 we have been unable to participate in the Christian Aid envelope donation collection or hold a Cheese and Soup lunch.

So, over the next few weeks we are making up small afternoon tea packs. (home-made scone and jam) We are asking families to take 1 pack, enjoy the scone and jam ( sorry if there are lots of you in one household to share 1 scone!) and then fill the empty jam jar with a few £1 coins & return the jar to church.

The people who are supported through Christian Aid have never needed our support more, especially during the harsh challenges of Covid 19 on top of all the underlying issues they already face. Please help and support this important outreach.
Packs are limited to a total of 100 packs and will be available in staggered batches at church at Sunday morning services and Tuesday morning café.  Please feel free to collect one for someone who can't get out.

Can't get the jar back to church?  Make a donation by sending a cheque made payable to 'The Eldwick Church' to Sharron Arnold and write Christian Aid on the reverse.  Alternatively, make an electronic payment to TEC, writing 'Christian Aid' in the reference field.
Link Cafe  The Tuesday Link café has now re-opened.  This will initially be an outside or take away café. Opening times are 9.30 am - 12.00 noon. We regret that regardless of the weather we will not be able to allow anyone inside the premises except to use the toilet facilities.

From Tuesday 18th May we will be able to hold the café indoors (as long as government guidelines remain on track)
Communication has, or is on its way out to café volunteers about the rota. If you don't already volunteer on our café rota and would like to, please get in touch with Susan Rishworth or Julie Smith.

Let's hope the sun shines on Tuesdays for the next few weeks!
We have a new Bible stand.  Thank you Chris Richards for your time and skills in crafting this beautiful addition to Church furniture.
The Bible stand has been made from pews which came from Eldwick Methodist Church.
Recruiting a new Minister:  the trustees felt that there is not likely to be much movement in the job market until we are further out of lockdown. Ministers will be reluctant to “let down” their current churches by moving at this difficult time (as was demonstrated by the lack of candidates applying during the last round of recruiting).

Therefore, although we are very keen to recruit someone to The Eldwick Church, we have made the decision to wait a little longer before re-advertising the post. Please continue to pray that God will provide the right person for our church.

Friday Night Bible Takeaway continues at 7.00 pm each week.
