Dear <<First Name (optional)>>,

One year ago, on October 2, 2020, India and South Africa put forth a groundbreaking proposal at the World Trade Organization (WTO) urging members to waive intellectual-property rights for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic to boost global production and supply of medical tools desperately needed to save lives.

With sufficient votes of support from countries across the globe, the Waiver proposal is a unique and promising opportunity to improve access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments, tests, and other health tools.

Over 100 countries now support the Waiver – yet, a small number of governments – including the EU, UK, Norway and Switzerland – continue to block it and have shamefully failed to act to make this lifesaving proposal a reality.

While we wait for the proposal to be passed at the WTO, people are dying needlessly. In the past year, 3.6 million people lost their lives due to the pandemic.

Then and now, MSF medical teams and other health workers around the world are struggling in incredibly difficult conditions, to save the lives of people in need. In many of the communities where MSF works, urgent access to COVID-19 medicines, vaccines and tests is needed.

That’s why we need YOUR continued and renewed support to get the remaining governments to stop blocking and back the Waiver and accelerate global supply and access of lifesaving COVID-19 medical tools.

Read about the challenges and experiences of our staff over this past year as they carried out their work on the COVID-19 frontline.

Urge governments to support the WTO TRIPS Waiver now.

Thank you,

MSF Access Campaign team
